Severe Weather Warning

Parts of the USA and Canada are experiencing adverse weather conditions, which are causing significant disruption to transport for customers departing on, or returning from, trips in that region.

Below is important information about how your travel insurance policy may provide cover.

If you are currently overseas

If you have a Southdowns policy, and are currently overseas, your travel insurance policy will automatically extend due to the current adverse weather disruptions until you are able to safely return home, provided that you do so as soon as possible.

Please note that as the current travel disruptions due to adverse weather are a known risk, any policies purchased with prior knowledge of the adverse weather conditions will not extend automatically or provide cover for claims related to these events.

If you have not yet travelled, we recommend that you:

  • Contact your airline or transport provider, or the airport/transport terminal you are due to depart from, to check the latest information regarding your travel arrangements.
  • Airlines should offer either a refund for any unused tickets or an alternative flight.

If you need to change the dates of a single-trip policy and do not intend to make a claim, please contact us, we may be able to amend your travel dates at no additional charge.

If your policy includes cover for Travel Delay or Missed Departure, please review the underwriter’s terms and conditions.

These outline what compensation may be available and the supporting evidence required.
